When it comes to grocery shopping, Davis and I like to be really organized. We try to minimize our paper usage by using GoogleDocs to make our list. It’s great because it’s quick and if we are in need of a certain food or item, we can each edit the list from our phones, computers, and iPads. Pretty cool, huh? I highly recommend doing this with your grocery list(s)! Not only will your grocery lists be much more organized, but whoever’s turn it is to do the grocery shopping won’t have any problems reading it, either 😉
Here’s what ours currently looks like; we just listed several stores that we go to for different things.
We are healthy eaters so we tend to stock up on fresh fruits and veggies and try to switch it up each week. Lately, we’ve been trying to aim for 70-80% fresh produce and 20% whatever else. The 20-30% may include a loaf of bread for sandwiches (whole grain/sourdough), cereal (again, I always pick a whole grain cereal), rice blends (white, brown, wild, etc.), beans (dried and canned), snacks and whatever else we want.
Here are our goodies from last week and this week…
Lots of fresh produce in this shopping cart.
When in doubt, make a stir fry or simply roast whatever veggies you have on hand (drizzle EVOO & season w/ S+P; bake @ 400 for ~20-25 minutes). You can easily make a bowl with rice + veggies + your choice of protein. It’s super easy and quick. We love this Quinoa rice blend from Near East. At first, Davis wasn’t too fond of quinoa. He didn’t hate it, but he didn’t love it either. One night I decided to make this with some oven roasted cauliflower and broccoli, tossed in some plant based sausage and he ate it all up! Now, it’s become a weekly night meal for us.
We love shopping at Trader Joe’s, but we don’t always get to shop there due to the distance. However, when we do go, we always stock up on their salsas (Salsa Especial & the Roasted Tomatillo are our favorites), hummus, almond milk (for me!) and a bunch of other items. I could go on and list everything I like from there (maybe another post), but the bottom line is that everything at TJ’s is awesome.
I love cereal and they’re great for busy mornings. I like that these cereals are made with whole grains and are low in sugar. I actually found these while shopping at Target; I couldn’t decide which one to get so I got all 3. Just eating cereal for breakfast doesn’t always fill me up so I usually add in 1/2 of a banana and a small handful of berries.
And last but not least: dessert. Davis and I love dessert so almost every night after dinner, we will have one of these items. While I do enjoy baking desserts for us, I don’t always have the time or energy so these are perfect for our sweet cravings. The chocolate bar you see front and center is e-n-o-r-m-o-u-s. It’s safe to say that it should last us quite a while since it’s a pound of chocolate.
What are your current favorite grocery items?
