I am a total bookworm. When I get the chance, I love to just sit and read a book. I could just read for hours and end up finishing a book within that same day or within a few days. When I was in school, it was completely different. Being able to choose what you want to read rather than what you have to read makes all the difference in the world! As a biology major, I had to read very long chapters from textbooks that weren’t always interesting. My mind wandered, so I usually had to go back and reread a page or two. While I like science (kind of have to being a bio major, right?), it was just so much information to take in. Not to mention, it holds more pressure just because it’s information you need to know.
One book series I was able to finish within 5 days was the Divergent trilogy. Call me crazy, but I could not put that book series down. I just wanted to know what happens next. My eyes were glued to the books. It took me a while to get into the first book, Divergent, but once I kept reading, I could not get enough. A friend of mine recommended the book to me and I’m glad she did! I love a good fiction book and that series delivered. Yes, this book series was turned into movies, but the books did a much better job at giving you the entire story rather than bits and pieces.
When I choose books, they have to spark my interest. I don’t so much go for reviews. However, if a friend recommends a book to me to read, I’ll likely end up reading that particular book. I like reading fictional stories the best just because they are written with such imagination and creativity. I also enjoy the mystery/thriller genre because it’s different and suspenseful. I also like non-fiction books because some of them are relatable, heartfelt, and they provide insight into the unknown. I love learning and reading because they help keep my mind refreshed!
One of my goals this year is to keep reading more books. A book I finished a while ago was High Heels to Tractor Wheels By Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman. It made me laugh and smile from cover to end. Ree is quite the writer and is really funny! She tells the story of her young adult life and how she meets her husband, Marlboro Man. It’s a cute story and a fun read.
I have an app on my iPad called GoodReads (they also have a website). If you aren’t familiar with it, GoodReads keeps tracks of books you have read, want to read, or are currently reading. The app allows you to review and rate books. I forgot how I found this app, but a friend might have recommended it to me. Feel free to check it out!
Right now, I am currently reading two books. I don’t know why I started a new book without having finished the first. Anyways, one is called Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and the other book is called Think Like a Freak by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. If you listen to the Freakonomics podcast, you would enjoy the book.
If you have any book recommendations, please let me know! I am all ears. Hope you’re all having a good week so far!
